To provide child safety legal advice and litigation services to the State by acting as a litigious solicitor and counsel in child safety and related proceedings.

Period of Appointment

Fixed Term full time ASAP until 5 February 2020.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight. We recognise the value in flexible working arrangements. Talk to us about how this could work for you.


  • To act as Solicitor and Counsel in routine child protection matters and appeals on behalf of the State of Tasmania before a range of courts and tribunals.
  • To provide advice to the State and its Agencies in respect to child safety matters.
  • To assist in the training of child safety protection officers employed by the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • To undertake administrative tasks within the area of responsibility including case and file reviews, case reporting and performance management.

Essential Requirements

  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
  • Current Drivers Licence.

    • Crimes involving dishonesty
    • Crimes involving deception
    • Making false declarations
    • Malicious damage and destruction to property
    • Serious traffic offences
    • Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice
    • Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power
    • Crimes involving Conspiracy.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.
