Primary Objective: Provide high quality mental health nursing care to clients attending the Tamarind Centre focusing on administration of intra muscular injections and associated bio-psychosocial assessments and metabolic monitoring.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.   In conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, deliver culturally appropriate, comprehensive nursing care consistent with National standards and contemporary practice.

2.   Maintain the ‘Depot Clinic’ for all allocated community based clients attending the Tamarind Centre; this includes maintaining a register of all clients receiving depot medication, arranging specific ongoing appointment times for review of Depot clients medication by the Medical Officer when scripting is required.

3.   Provide Medical Officers advanced notice of scripts required, ordering and storing medication for clients as prescribed by the treating Medical Officer.

4.   Monitoring and recording of routine physical and metabolic observations/health checks in Community Care Information System Metabolic Function and progress notes.

5.   Report anomalies to Medical Officer(s), Case Managers and Clinical Nurse Consultant; or Team Manager for maintenance of clients, and attend all Team Meetings to handover this information.

6.   Undertake outcome measure assessments for clients of the Depot clinic.

7.   Adhere to Department of Health and Top End Mental Health Service policies, procedures, protocols and function within legislation governing Nursing practice.

8.   Any other duties relating to depot administration as directed.

9.   Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.   Current registration and Annual Practising Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

2.   Ability to recognise and articulate the interest of different cultures, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait and Islander peoples, including a capacity to sensitively and effectively negotiate in accordance with cultural protocols.

3.   Knowledge of nursing principles and ability to apply them in the Mental Health setting and reflect a sound understanding of the professional ethics implicit in the provision of nursing care.

4.   Ability to prioritise and organise own workload while functioning as a team member.

5.   An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

 

Desirable:

1.   Current NT drivers licence or ability to obtain.

Primary Objective: As a member of a multi-disciplinary team working within Adult Mental Health Team, provide a quality mental health service, which incorporates recovery principles and a carer participation approach, to maintain, facilitate and promote the physical, emotional and social health of clients.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Within a multi-disciplinary team framework, assist in the delivery of culturally appropriate, comprehensive and quality mental health care and case management for clients consistent with National Mental Health Standards.

2.     Work collaboratively to provide efficient and effective client care through the appropriate use of resources including partnership with local service providers and client management systems.

3.     Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including Mental Health and Related Services Act, Top End Health Services and the Department of Health policies, procedures and guidelines.

4.     Promote contemporary professional practice by participating and maintaining your own Personal Professional Development, Clinical Supervision, Orientation and Work Partnership Plans; support and mentor students.

5.     Follow defined service quality standards, work health & safety policies / procedures relating to work being undertaken in order to ensure a high quality, safe service and workplace; participate in quality projects / review policies as required.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.     Registered Nurse holding a current certificate of registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and eligibility for Designated Mental Health Practitioner status under the Northern Territory (NT) Mental Health and Related Services Act.

2.     Proven clinical experience, knowledge of contemporary mental health nursing practices with the ability to prioritise / organise workload and act as a clinical resource / role model (e.g. mentoring / preceptoring) for new staff / students.

3.     Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development and implementation of local activities beyond direct client care, e.g. clinical education, assist in management, research / quality assurance activities.

4.     Demonstrated organisational and effective communication skills to promote productive multi-disciplinary working relationships, and an ability to use electronic information systems to maintain high quality clinical records.

5.     Demonstrated adherence to Workplace Health and Safety standards.

6.     Proven, well-developed knowledge / understanding of social / cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence health care provision for clients / families; ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

 

Desirable:

1.     Graduate diploma beyond entry to practice in Mental Health.

2.     Hold a current NT drivers licence or have the ability to obtain.

Primary Objective: Provide a holistic mental health service to the community, clients and their families in accordance with the Australian Health Minister’s Advisory Council Standards, Australian Council of Mental Health Nurses & National Standards for Mental Health Nursing Practice.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Carry out assessments, interventions and case management of allocated caseload using a recovery based framework, and provide specialist clinical nursing services for other clients and stakeholders as required.

2.     Develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans with clients, carer’s and the clinical team; and engage with stakeholders to ensure high quality holistic care for people with a mental illness.

3.     Maintain regular attendance and professional input at clinical and team meetings, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records through the use of information systems as per Top End Mental Health Service policies.

4.     Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces including engaging in  clinical supervision.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.     Registered Nurse/Midwife holding a current certificate of registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and holds a recognised qualification in Mental Health Nursing, eligibility for Designated Mental Health Practitioner status under the NT Mental Health Act. Willingness to complete post graduate qualifications relevant to the position as determined by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment. 

2.     Demonstrated ability to function as a Community Mental Health Nurse in the provision of a quality service to clients with serious mental illness and complex needs in a community setting, including ability to conduct assessments of risk and needs and to formulate care plans.

3.     Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, including skills in negotiation, conflict resolution and inter-agency collaboration.

4.     Proven ability to work independently and manage time to effectively organise own workload. 

5.     Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation, issues, standards and trends in community mental health.

6.     Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carer’s and other professionals, and with people from diverse cultures.

7.     Hold a current NT drivers licence or have the ability to readily obtain.

 

Desirable:

1.     Post-graduate qualification in mental health nursing or relevant other field.
