Primary Objective: Provide a high quality information and interpretive service to park visitors. Assist in the implementation of holistic environmental and conservation based visitor experiences to demonstrate a new level of environmental awareness, education and appreciation.


Context Statement: The Guide Service conducts formal and informal daily presentations to the public. Visitor engagement is the principle focus within an Alice Springs context with regard to education, culture and environment.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Greet and converse with visitors, providing a consistently high level of customer service under limited supervision.

2.     Develop, present and monitor nature based presentations, tours and activities to Park visitors in line with the Park’s interpretive program.

3.     Provide direction and assist visitors to ensure their visit is safe and enjoyable

4.     Assist with park amenity and maintenance of fixed interpretation and visitor equipment.Enter as numbered points – commence each responsibility with an action verb and identify the outcome)


Selection Criteria:


1.     Ability to communicate effectively with individual visitors and groups to provide appropriate information about the flora, fauna and habitats of Central Australia.

2.     Ability to work effectively as part of a team; maintaining a positive, enthusiastic approach under times of pressure, such as high visitation, attitude and the ability to adapt and work under pressure.

3.     Ability to undertake a range of tasks related to the role and the work of the Visitor Services unit as directed by the supervisor.

4.     Ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays on a roster system at the Alice Springs Desert Park.

5.     Current or ability to obtain ‘C’ class NT Driver’s Licence; Senior First Aid Certificate and Working with Children (Ochre Card).

6.     Ability to operate work vehicles at the Alice Springs Desert Park when required.

7.     Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
