Work Experience - Bushcare

  • Unpaid Work Experience open to High School students

Assist Bush Care Officers with tasks such as weed removal, seed collection, erosion control, debris control and general bush care.

Due to the safety aspect of the work within the trade areas, students are only able to use manual tools rather than mechanical equipment. On-site training in basic plant identification, weed removal methods and safe use of hand tools will be provided. Volunteers will not be permitted to use herbicides or powered equipment. Workplace Health and Safety inductions will be provided. If you have completed a previous work experience Work Health & Safety training course, and can supply us with a copy of your certificate of completion, then special consideration may be given to undertake other work activities in Bush Care.

You must also wear appropriate clothing including long-sleeve shirt, long trousers and sturdy, closed footwear. Gloves and hat will be supplied.

General Information

  • Successful applicants must have own transport to and from base location of work.
  • Canterbury-Bankstown Council is committed to our Work Experience Program; however, we cannot accept every applicant. Most areas will only be able to accommodate one placement at a time.
  • When applications close at the end of July, supervisors will short list applications, giving priority to those applicants who attend a local education institution, or who live in the Bankstown Local Government Area.
  • Priority will also be granted on those that have provided the relevant information requested by Council in their application.

  • A cover letter including information of the area the student would prefer to work in, the dates you are available for work experience to take place, and the available hours.
  • A resume including current education information and any past work experience.
