Currently there is one (1) permanent position available for filling.  Other suitable applicants will be placed in a recruitment pool. This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill other similar full-time, part-time, permanent or fixed-term vacancies with the possibility of further extension(s) and/or permanency. Please note that being placed in the pool does not guarantee your placement in a position.

This position is structured such that if a person is appointed to the Revenue Consultant position at a Level 5 classification, they will have the opportunity to be reclassified to a Senior Revenue Consultant, Level 6. This is provided their behaviour and technical expertise has developed to the extent that they can satisfy specific competencies at the higher classification level. Please note the reclassification is not automatic.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

As a Revenue Consultant / Senior Revenue Consultant, you will be required to provide technical advice and support and exercise technical judgement in regards to the application and administration of taxation legislation to complex transactions involving substantial amounts of revenue. You will analyse, interpret and apply complex taxation legislation to high value landholder and mining transactions, consider exemptions for corporate reconstructions, determine charitable exemptions from payroll tax, and identify potential tax avoidance schemes.

Ideally, an applicant will have experience in administering complex legislation, the ability to make an accurate analysis of complex transactions and commercial and financial documentation, and exposure to investigating tax avoidance transactions. A taxation or legal background, or an understanding of financial analysis for accounting tax consolidation and/or financial modelling for the valuation of assets, will be highly regarded.

LEVEL 5 WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex legislation (preferably in a taxation environment) and the ability to research complex issues and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills with a capacity to identify, interpret and assimilate information and financial data to arrive at a decision.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial and financial documentation in relation to business transactions and structures enabling identification of taxation related issues.
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills when responding to, and negotiating with, parties involved in complex matters.
  • Demonstrated professional work ethic including:

        - Integrity, tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters;

        - Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; and

        - Initiative, motivation and capacity for sustained, quality output.

LEVEL 6 WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS 

Essential

  • Demonstrated high level ability to interpret and apply complex legislation (preferably relating to duty/stamp duty or payroll tax).
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills with a capacity to identify, interpret and assimilate information and financial data to arrive at a decision.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial and financial documentation in relation to business transactions and structures enabling identification of taxation related issues.
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills when responding to, and negotiating with, parties involved in complex matters.
  • Demonstrated capacity to coach and mentor others on complex technical matters.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to achieve project objectives.
  • Demonstrated professional work ethic including:

        - Integrity, tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters;

        - Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; and

        - Initiative, motivation and capacity for sustained, quality output.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Australian Permanent Residency status is a minimum requirement for permanent appointment to the WA Public Sector. However, for appointment on a fixed term contract or casual basis, applicants only require a valid Work Visa for the duration of the entire advertised term.

APPOINTMENT IS SUBJECT TO

  • 100 point identification check; and
  • Criminal Records Screening clearance.
