Opportunity for an experienced migration Lawyer to join Victoria Legal Aid's Migration team in a leadership position; taking on complex civil law matters and providing support and mentoring to the team.

About the role: 
You will act as a senior advocate by providing expert advice in complex civil law matters, with a focus on migration law. You will appear as a lawyer at various courts and tribunals to effectively advocate for clients with civil and human rights issues. You will also assist the Program Manager to advocate for systemic changes to law and policy to improve access to justice, particularly in migration law. You will assist in the supervision and mentoring of staff and contribute to professional legal education by participating in the development of civil law training programs. You may also be involved in community education projects.

This presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced migration lawyer looking to develop their leadership and mentoring skills whilst contributing to the strategic direction of the program focused on improving services provided to clients.

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge and experience in civil law and relevant court procedures, with extensive knowledge of migration law. You will have the ability to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues, including a developed understanding of external organisations, community and welfare groups, and the role they play in legal aid services. You will have high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and clients at all levels. You will also have the ability to supervise and mentor staff and initiate and implement policies to enhance the delivery of our services. Crucial to your success in this role, will be your collaborative approach and sound team work skills.
