Bushcare Community Nursery Supervisor (Coal Loader)

  • Part time – 17 hours per week – Weekend work required

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD.

We are currently seeking a Bushcare Community Nursery Supervisor, based at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton. This position will contribute to Council’s biodiversity conservation and rehabilitation programs by co-ordinating general nursery operations such as seed bank administration, volunteer supervision and plant production scheduling.  The role will play an integral role in Council’s Bushland Management Team by providing support for the bush regeneration program, community education initiatives and facilitating participation in Council’s Bushcare community engagement programs.



  • Trade certificate in Nursery Management or equivalent (min Cert IV level).
  • Chemical application certificate (AQF3 or equivalent).
  • Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in general nursery operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in propagating native plants and managing seed banks.
  • Clear communication and well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proven skills in computer literacy and applicable software applications.
  • Experience working with volunteer groups related to environmental conservation.
  • Sound knowledge of the native vegetation of North Sydney LGA and surrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work on weekends.
  • Ability and willingness to follow Council’s Occupational Health & Safety policies.


  • NSW Work Cover OH&S General Induction for Construction Work.
  • Experience in environmental education/interpretation.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, guidelines and protocols relating to native plant propagation and biodiversity conservation.
