Primary Objective: Support the Big Rivers maintenance team to ensure effective asset management repairs and maintenance and enable Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to meet its responsibilities and achieve its public housing program outcomes.


Context Statement: The DHCD Katherine manages properties throughout the Big Rivers Region. As a member of the maintenance team the Housing Officer is the initial point of contact for Property Contract Officers and tenants reporting the need for repairs and maintenance on Big Rivers Region dwellings. The position is also responsible for monitoring work orders to ensure work is undertaken by housing maintenance contractors in accordance with agreed timeframes.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Support the Urban and Remote Housing team by providing professional and timely responses to requests for maintenance and the raising of maintenance orders.

2.      Provide administrative support to the maintenance team using relevant mainframe systems to ensure urban and remote tenancy and repairs and maintenance program objectives are met.

3.      Maintain and analyse records and provide detailed statistical and financial reports in relation to repairs and maintenance undertaken on properties.

4.      Provide support in regard to activities relating to contract performance and contractual deliverables.

5.      Provide high level administrative and financial support to the Property Coordinator and Senior Property Coordinator.


Selection Criteria


1.      Proven ability to work as a member of a team and independently with limited supervision.

2.      Demonstrated experience in contract administration and financial business practices and processes.

3.      Experienced background in property and maintenance management.

4.      Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and manage multiple tasks, work under pressure and deliver quality output.

5.      Demonstrated experience in using a range of software and mainframe data systems including spreadsheets.

6.      Demonstrated experience in data analysis with the ability to prepare detailed accurate reports.

7.      Demonstrated ability to negotiate confidently and communicate effectively including verbal, written and listening skills, in particular with people from different cultural backgrounds.



1.      Sound knowledge and understanding of the functions of Territory Housing including policies and legislation.

2.      Demonstrated experience in contract administration and financial business practices and processes.

3.      Experienced background in property and maintenance management.
