Who are we?

The Building Consenting Unit plays a pivotal role in the Christchurch community through its range of activities and responsibilities supporting our residential and commercial customers see their vision for their future developments come to life, from conception through to completion.

We see our role as working alongside our customers, which means that we have to be future focused and understand that as our customer's vision and goals change, we need to change with them. We have given a lot of thought to this over the last 12 months; how we can make sure we are set up in a way that prepares us to be able to respond not only to the current state but the future state as well.

We recognise that our people on the ground are in the best position to provide expert advice. By sharing our ideas together and considering all feedback and views, we now have a way forward as to how we can be set up for success both now and in the future.  

As a result we have new opportunities for people and performance driven leaders to join us, as ultimately we know that it's our people who will ensure that we continue to go from strength to strength.

What's on offer? 

Think of these roles in terms of the lifecycle of a Building Consent application. Each role plays a separate, but equally important part of the puzzle.

Team Leader Vetting & Allocation - Vetting various types of building applications, this team is the first point of contact for your application. This role is responsible for making sure our customer receives the right information from the right person in a timely manner, in a way that is informative and customer service driven.

Team Leader Processing - Next up, this team takes applications from concept to reality, and are focused on making sure our customers feel and see that we are working in partnership with them. Our aim is make this process as smooth as possible, by providing the right information and advice to ensure the next stage of their development / building plan can get off the ground.

Team Leader Engineering Services - This team provides specialist technical and engineering input for building consent aspects. For this role, we are looking for the best of both worlds. You will need to be an effective people leader and have the credibility and experience to provide sound advice on all areas of engineering services. You will walk into an already high performing, established team and continue to build upon their capability, and the culture of working as a team which has positive impacts on our customers, both internal and external.

Team Leader Inspections Support - Foundations have been laid and the structure is coming together; now is the time for our Building Inspectors to get out on site to make sure everything is on track. This team provide the interface between constructors and our building inspections services, and appreciate that in order to best meet our customer's specific needs, the inspector's time is valuable and must be managed carefully through partnership and communication.

A bit about you.

Industry experience in these roles would be valuable, however we welcome applications no matter your area of expertise as ultimately you'll lead from the front, inspire with your vision and drive performance.
