We need an experienced and passionate professional to join the Health, Building and Regulatory Services team in the role of Fire Safety Project Officer / Senior Building Surveyor.

In this role you will develop and implement specialist building regulation; assess applications, certificates, enquiries, service requests and other regulatory matters; and implement fire safety programs and projects, including assessment of existing and proposed buildings in relation to compliance with relevant building regulations and fire safety requirements, fire safety upgrading strategies and implementing Council’s essential services program.


For this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in building surveying, health & building, fire safety or equivalent demonstrated qualifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the implementation of the Approvals, Orders, Certification and Regulatory provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993 and other Local Government legislation.
  • Demonstrated and comprehensive knowledge and application of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspect and assess existing and proposed levels of fire safety within buildings and to assess and develop suitable building and fire safety upgrading strategies, notices and orders.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate and manage a caseload of building regulation, compliance, certification and fire safety related action requests, applications, certificates and allocated activities.
  • Highly developed ability to effectively communicate, negotiate/mediate outcomes and develop practical, effective and accountable solutions to resolve matters.
  • High quality report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated and effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate staff and demonstrate leadership and organisational skills.
  • A valid Class C motor vehicle licence must be held at all times.
  • Personal computer and keyboard skills with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft software, skills in spreadsheets and property type data base.
