About the Role

The position will assist management in exercising ‘due diligence’ by providing broad organisational support in developing and implementing Council’s overall safety management system. The position will be responsible to deliver the safety objectives of the organisation and assist Council’s to improve its safety culture.


Some of the main position objectives for this position are:

  •  Manage compliance with current legislation, standards, policies and procedures to ensure Council’s obligations are met in the areas of work health and safety and injury management
  • Engage with all levels of the organisation to ensure accountability and responsibility for the management of WHS and worker safety is effectively embedded in our culture
  • Develop an annual work health and safety work plan to ensure our employees are operating in a safe environment.
  • Ensure safety inspections, investigations and audits are completed
  • Support managers to develop, monitor and maintain safe systems of work
  • Conduct site inspections on major and minor road works/projects
  • Maintain Council’s incident/ hazard reporting system
  • Manage and administer workers compensation claims and recover at work programs
  • Deliver WHS Induction training to staff, councillors and volunteers

Essential Criteria:

  • Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety minimum
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Minimum 2 Years’ experience working in a WHS generalist role
  • Construction Induction Certificate
  • Sound Knowledge of WHS Legislation
  • Sound knowledge of Workers Compensation legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyse issues and prepare accurate reports
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Experience in meeting competing deadlines
  • Current Class 'C' drivers licence
