Safety Advisor

The Safety Advisor is responsible for promoting a safe work environment by providing professional support, advice and assistance to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, standards and Council’s Safety Management System.


  1. Organisational Development. Provide education, assistance and advice on all Work Health and Safety matters to create a level of understanding that ensures compliance with Council and legislative requirements.
  2. Legislative Interpretation. Provide accurate technical advice around interpretation of legislation impacting on Work Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation.
  3. Reporting. Generate scheduled and ad hoc health and safety performance reporting.
  4. Case Management. In conjunction with relevant stakeholders, coordinate appropriate case management processes.
  5. Data Integrity. Maintain and upgrade accurate data in Work Health and Safety systems and assist in the development of information systems to meet management and legislative requirements.
  6. Projects. Contribute to the successful delivery of key projects and identify areas of continuous improvement.
  7. Safety Management System. Develop, implement, monitor and review Work Health and Safety policies and procedures within Council’s Safety Management System.
  8. Culture. Promote a positive safety culture that is built on personal responsibilities for the safety of oneself and others.

Your Application must address your skills and experience in the following position specific requirements:


  • Highly developed administrative, communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated time management, project management, planning and computer skills, including a high level of competence in components of the Microsoft Office.
  • Proven experience in a Work Health and Safety role.
  • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence.
  • Qualified Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator or willing to undertake training.


  • Tertiary qualification in an associated discipline.
  • Cert IV Training and Assessment
  • General Construction Induction Card
  • Experience in a local government Work Health and Safety role.

As part of the interview process the preferred candidate is required to undertake relevant pre-employment checks. The pre-employment checks relevant to this position include:

  • Right to Work in Australia
  • Medical Assessment and Drug & Alcohol testing.

Central Highlands Regional Council will arrange these checks for the preferred candidate following interview
