Primary Objective:

Provide operational advice and information on a range of corporate services for the Office of the Children's Commissioner (OCC).  Provide quality business and executive support to the Children’s Commissioner and the OCC including assisting with the development of business systems, policies and procedures and providing research and reporting advice and services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1.   Provide operational advice and information on a range of corporate services for the Office of the Children's Commissioner. 

2.   Provide quality business support to the OCC including assisting with the development of business systems, policies and procedures and providing research and reporting advice and services.

3.   Identify and monitor relevant data in relation to the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and young people for use by the OCC to develop evidence based reports and advice.  Compile the data into appropriate formats for use by OCC staff.

4.   Undertake research and assist with the management of projects to develop and review policies and procedures for approval by senior management.  Develop options and recommendations.

5.   Manage the Commissioners daily activities including travel and appointments ensuring timely attendance and readiness.

6.   Receive complaints relating to the treatment of vulnerable children and young people and ensure relevant initial data is obtained.  Refer complaints to appropriate Investigator for action. Draft appropriate correspondence relating to complaints.

7.   Provide liaison with the Department of the Attorney-General and Justice, other Government agencies and external organisations.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.   Sound ability to provide operational advice and information on a range of corporate services for the Office of the Children's Commissioner. 

2.   Demonstrated ability to provide quality business support to the Commissioner and the OCC including assisting with the development of business systems, policies and procedures and providing research and reporting advice and services.

3.   Good research skills together with the ability to collect and analyse data and compile it into usable formats.

4.   High level of oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated high level administrative and secretariat support, including preparation of high level meeting papers. An ability and demeanour to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures in a complaint handling environment.

5.   Good event management and a proven ability to interact with diverse representatives from external organisations, representative groups and the broader community.

6.   High level organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work, to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and utilise resources efficiently.

7.   Demonstrated computer literacy skills with a focus on the use of spreadsheets, databases, internet and word processing.

 

Desirable:

Knowledge of the role and function of the Office of the Children’s Commissioner NT or a similar organisation.
