Primary Objective: Produce resources to ensure the implementation of legislation and the improvement of local government performance. The position has a significant role in training and engaging with local government council members and staff. Provide high level support, strategic advice and critical analysis across a wide range of policy and legislation issues.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Provide training resources and multimedia information for a variety of stakeholders to implement legislative change and promote local government issues.

2.     Undertake research and provide critical analysis, strategic advice and comment across a range of legislation and policy issues.

3.     Participate in the development, review and implementation of legislation, policy, strategies and projects.

4.     Manage Ministerial appointments, organise drafting of instruments; organise Gazettal and tabling of documents; process council by-laws.

5.     Provide secretariat management to relevant steering/reference committees, working groups and other groups.

6.     Advise members of the public and councils regarding requirements and processes in relation to cemeteries, local government and other legislation.

7.     Communicate complex concepts in an understandable manner to stakeholders and stakeholder groups.

8.     Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with a diverse range of people.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.      Proven experience in the development and use of a variety of media platforms and training resources.

2.      Proven experience in the development and review of policy and legislation with high level knowledge of policy and legislation relevant to the Department or ability to acquire such knowledge.

3.      Proven ability to meet deadlines and to manage complex and sensitive projects.

4.      High level ability to translate complex concepts for understanding by various audiences.

5.      Proven experience in high level written communications, including briefings proposals and recommendations, reports and meeting briefs, clearly communicating complex and broad ranging subject matter to a wide range of stakeholders.

6.      Well-developed cross cultural communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

 

Desirable:

1.     Relevant tertiary qualifications; e.g. multimedia, journalism, law, policy, public sector management or other relevant qualification.
