Primary Objective: Receive, interpret and action maintenance requests from public housing tenants, while advising tenants of their maintenance responsibilities in situations where maintenance requests are deemed to be tenant responsibility.

 

Context Statement: The Maintenance Support Officer is the initial point of contact for tenants reporting the need for repairs and maintenance on Urban Public Housing properties.  The position is also responsible for creating system maintenance work orders and monitoring of these to ensure work is undertaken by housing maintenance contractors in accordance with existing requirements of the contracts.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Receive, interpret and action maintenance requests from tenants, while advising tenants of their maintenance responsibilities in situations where maintenance requests are deemed to be tenant responsibility.

2.     Raise work orders to the Department’s housing maintenance contractors as appropriate.

3.     Operate the Department’s asset computer information system to maximise an efficient and effective service to our clients.

4.     Liaise with the Department’s contractors to ensure that works and requested reports are provided within contractual guidelines.

5.     Work co-operatively with other staff in maintaining service standards within the agency.

6.     Process miscellaneous payments and reimbursements such as garden subsidy applications.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.     Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to external and internal clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

2.     Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain sound working relationships at all levels and to contribute to a team operating in a dynamic work environment.

3.     Proven ability to work as part of a small team with minimal supervision in an environment subject to change.

4.     Demonstrated ability to organise daily tasks and prioritise workloads.

5.     Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, cope with stressful situations and demanding clients, referring problems on when necessary.

6.     Demonstrated ability and experience in the effective use of computer information systems.

7.     Knowledge and participation of privacy and confidentiality relevant to the position and cross-cultural sensitivity.

 

Desirable:

1.     An awareness and understanding of public housing issues and the objectives of Department of Housing.

2.     Sound knowledge of Department of Housing functions, policies and business systems.
