The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (BGSH) is a botanical institution, not just of collections but of research and ideas where we tell the story of our connections to the botanical world and the role of plants. Through exhibitions, events, participatory engagements, research and outreach, BGSH is a place where the broader South Australian community and visiting tourists are actively encouraged to engage with our rich collections. Our ambitious plan to create destination gardens and lifelong learning is reflective of this and includes major collections redevelopment, creating unique tourism experiences, and temporary exhibitions.

The Manager, Learning and Visitor Experiences will take the lead on integrating and developing programmes designed to engage and build a rich understanding of the botanical world. We seek to deliver experiences that demonstrate BGSH’s capacity for innovative content delivery and public engagement across its diverse garden estates. The occupant of the position will have a passion for working with people and across diverse disciplines and cultural collecting institutions, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, a solutions-focused approach and the ability to think and work creatively.

Special Conditions
 

  • This is a term position for up to 3 years.
  • May be required to participate in fire management or associated duties.
  • Some out of hours work may be required.
  • May require inter/intrastate travel.
  • This role has functions pertaining to working with children and is prescribed under the Children’s Protection Act, 1993 as requiring a Criminal History Assessment. By applying for this role the you must consent to being screened for appropriate behaviour and to the Department obtaining, or requiring you to obtain a Criminal History Assessment.

Remuneration
ASO7 ($98,259 - $106,507 per annum, pro rata for part time hours).
