The Whitsunday Regional Council is situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.  The region encompasses the 74 tropical Whitsunday Islands, the coastal towns of Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour and Bowen along with the rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville.  The Whitsunday region offers a dynamic environment and is perfectly placed to live, work, play and invest.

An exciting opportunity exists within our Office of Mayor and CEO team for a Projects Officer.  Reporting to the Chief Staff Officer we are looking for an experienced individual to undertake a wide range of research and analytical project tasks on behalf of the Office of Mayor and CEO.

As the Project Officer you will be responsible for

  • Undertaking independent research and provide high quality advice and reporting, sometimes within compressed timeframes.
  • Coordinating the preparation and reporting of organisational performance activities including annual benchmark surveys.
  • Assisting with the preparation of major governance documents including the Corporate Plan, Operational Plan and quarterly Operational Plan reports.

With the necessary experience and qualifications you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.  You will be an excellent team contributor and motivated to complete tasks on time.


  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise in order to prioritise in order to meet competing demands
  • Experience in conducting research into complex issues, including the preparation of briefing material within limited time constraints
  • Well developed communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to draft detailed correspondence for review by others
