Job Description:

An exciting opportunity exists within the Department of Education and Training as Principal Policy Officer - Aboriginal Inclusion, Koorie Outcomes Division. This position will provide leadership in guiding the Department's approach to Koorie inclusion, including coordinating governance mechanisms that support the Department's Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan. This role is responsible for designing targeted programs, participating in communities of practice, coordinating the Department's Koorie Staff Network, providing strategic advice regarding Koorie inclusion and facilitating and/or delivering relevant training. This role requires well-developed knowledge of Koorie inclusion and cultural safety, a sound understanding of issues impacting on Koorie learners and their families, and demonstrated experience in communicating respectfully and effectively with Koorie people.

Principal Policy Officer – Aboriginal Inclusion VPSG6 (full-time, ongoing)

The Koorie Outcomes Division, located in the Early Childhood and School Education Group, provides strategic leadership across the Department to ensure policy, programs, and services are inclusive of Koorie learners from birth to adulthood, and builds leadership and supports workforce capacity to enable the implementation of quality learning and development programs for Koorie learners.

The Division also coordinates the implementation of Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026, an integrated ten-year plan that aims to improve learning, development and educational outcomes for Koorie Victorians across the early childhood, schools and higher education and training sectors.

The Principal Policy Officer – Aboriginal Inclusion will provide leadership in guiding the Department's approach to Koorie inclusion, including coordinating governance mechanisms that support the Department's Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan.

The position will liaise with key stakeholders across the Department (including Divisions, Regions and Area Offices), government and Koorie community, to develop evidence-based approaches to embed Koorie inclusion as core business.

This includes designing targeted programs, participating in communities of practice, coordinating the Department's Koorie Staff Network, providing strategic advice regarding Koorie inclusion and facilitating and/or delivering relevant training.
