Primary Objective: Responsible for the ongoing provision of high quality clinical care to patients at Katherine Hospital.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Direct, coordinate, supervise, manage and evaluate the work of all ED medical staff in the provision of patient Responsible to the Director of Medical Services for the provision of high quality care to clients of the Katherine Hospital through coordination and facilitation of diagnosis, management and discharge planning.

2.      Communicate effectively with all health professionals providing care to the client, and where appropriate, family and other relevant carers.

3.      Provide accurate and legible and timely clinical records, including medical reports and discharge summaries as determined by the Director of Medical Services.

4.      Participate in on-call, after hours and weekend rosters as determined by the Director of Medical Services or delegate.

5.      Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.

6.      Adhere to Best Work Practice Standards as laid down in the Northern Territory Medical Officers Certified Agreement.

7.      Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.     Medical Degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or eligible for Conditional Registration.

2.     Broad postgraduate medical experience in any or all of the following disciplines: paediatrics, general medicine, accident and emergency and general surgery.

3.     Fellowship of the RACGP or ACRRM (or equivalent).

4.     Recognized advanced skills training in FACRRM or FARGP programme, or equivalent, such as Advanced DRANZCOG (obstetrics) or JCCA (anaesthetics).

5.     Good verbal and written communication skills.

6.     Basic computer skills.

7.     Able to work in a cross cultural environment.

8.     An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

Further Information: 

Department of Health has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities or vehicle nor whilst working off-site. The applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the position.

Primary Objective: A Senior Rural Generalist (SRG) is a Medical Officer employed or regularly performing duties in a rural or remote hospital or community setting who has advanced procedural or equivalent skills and experience across a range of areas in rural and remote medicine. The Employee will usually have been admitted as a Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM (or equivalent), with advanced skills in areas of medicine.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Is responsible to the Director of Medical Services for the provision of high quality care to clients of the Katherine Hospital through co-ordination and facilitation of diagnosis, management and discharge planning.

2.     Communicate effectively with all health professionals providing care to the client, and where appropriate, family and other relevant carers.

3.     Provide accurate and legible and timely clinical records, including medical reports and discharge summaries as determined by the Director of Medical Services.

4.     Participate in on-call, after hours and weekend rosters as determined by the Director of Medical Services or delegate.

5.     At the discretion of the Director of Medical Services or delegate participate in provision of health care to locations other than Katherine Hospital.

6.     Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.

7.     To adhere to Best Work Practice Standards as laid down in the NT Medical Officers Certified Agreement.

8.     Provide clinical leadership and participation in governance structures and training of junior and trainee medical staff.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.      Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

2.      Holds a Fellowship or equivalent of either Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine

3.      Advanced skill areas to a senior level of expertise, such as anaesthetics (JCCA certified) or Advanced Diploma of Obstetrics.

4.      Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience.

5.      Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment, as a team member.

6.      An interest in and a commitment to improving remote Indigenous health.

7.      Evidence of commitment to; continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.

8.      Ability to utilise electronic clinical care tools (i.e. Medchart, Electronic Discharge Summaries, and CareSys etc.)
