North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 71,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands, and a bustling CBD. Our aim is to ensure North Sydney remains a welcoming, well-designed, safe and beautiful environment for residents, workers and visitors.


We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Horticulturalist to join our skillful and hardworking Parks and Gardens team. This role will ensure that public parks and gardens in the North Sydney area are consistently presented and maintained to a high standard. Duties will include planting, pruning, plant removal, weeding, mulching, watering, pest control, litter removal, safely managing work sites, and safely maintaining Council’s plant and vehicles. This role will also be required to draw on existing knowledge and experience to provide technical input and advice on horticultural issues such as disease identification and planting formats.


This permanent position will be based at the Parks & Gardens depot located in St Leonards Park in North Sydney, close to public transport and recreational facilities.


Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will have qualifications and experience in Horticulture, show initiative and not be afraid to roll up their sleeves to get stuck in to hard work.


Essential

  • Qualifications in Horticulture
  • Demonstrated practical experience in the horticulture industry
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate instructions and advice effectively
  • Current Drivers Licence, Class C
  • Chemical Application Certification
  • Physical fitness
  • WHS Construction Induction


Desirable

  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current Driver’s Licence, MR Class 3
  • Front End loader competency
