Primary Objective:

Lead the work of a Remote School Attendance Strategy team to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in accordance with the Operation Framework and Attendance Activity Plan and facilitate communication and collaboration between all key stakeholders.


Context Statement:

Borroloola School is located in the township of Borroloola, 850km southeast of Darwin. The population is approximately 1000. There are four main clans: Garrawa, Mara, Yanyuwa and Gurdanji. The two main languages are Yanyuwa and English. Borroloola can be accessed by a sealed bitumen road all year round or via air through regular passenger transport flights.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Supervise and support team members to develop their work skills and levels of confidence and resilience to undertake their roles effectively

2.     Develop and implement an Attendance Activity Plan

3.     Plan and lead the activities of the team to ensure its operations are effective and in accordance with the Operational Framework and agreed Attendance Activity Plan

4.     Provide information and reporting in accordance with the School Attendance Strategy

5.     Facilitate governance committee meetings of key community stakeholders to develop and implement combined approaches that support improved rates of school attendance and enrolment

6.     Collaborate with Elders, Traditional Owners and influential members of the community to develop targeted and sustainable approaches to minimise the impact of non-school obligations on attendance.


Selection Criteria


1.     Demonstrated knowledge of cultural and cross cultural, social and community issues affecting remote Indigenous communities

2.     Demonstrated ability to develop rapport and respect with students and families

3.     Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information and situations in a sensitive and empathetic manner

4.     Well-developed oral and written communication skills

5.     Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the operation of computerised information systems

6.     Hold a current Northern Territory Driver’s Licence and current Ochre Card
