POOL RECRUITMENT

The pool recruitment will operate for eighteen (18) months from the date of the initial selection of the pool.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made as they arise.

About the Role 
As a Social Trainer you will be supporting individuals with disabilities to be as independent as possible with their personal care including showering, dressing and toileting; household duties and community tasks.

Work Related Requirements for Level 1 positions 
Qualifications 
Essential 
- Year 10 English (or qualification deemed equivalent) or 
- Ability to pass the Department of Communities, Disability Services’ assessment of written and spoken English at this level. 
Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 
Essential 
- Understanding and sensitivity towards people with diverse backgrounds. 
- Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. 
- Capacity to work independently and as a member of a team. 
- An understanding of the role of a direct care staff in supporting people with an intellectual disability.

Work Related Requirements for Level 2 positions 
Qualifications 
Essential 
- Certificate III in Disability (or qualification deemed equivalent). AND 
- Successful completion of units in Certificate IV in Disability (or qualification deemed equivalent) that cover advanced behaviour; skills development and maintenance, and the use of targeted communication. 
- Year 10 English (or qualification deemed equivalent) or 
- Ability to pass the Department of Communities, Disability Services’ assessment of written and spoken English at this level. 
Experience 
Essential 
- Demonstrated relevant experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities 
Essential 
- Understanding of the values and philosophies that drive direct care work. 
- Knowledge of the principles of positive behaviour support, including functional communication. 
- Knowledge of skills development and maintenance, methods and practices. 
- Understanding of community inclusion.

Eligibility 
Prospective Social Trainers must: 

  • Hold a current Australian driver's licence and have the ability to travel in response to organisational needs.
  • Have documentary evidence of English at the Australian Year 10 level or the ability to pass ourassessment of written and spoken English at this level.
  • Have the ability to work shifts from 1 to 12 hour lengths including overnight shifts, across Monday to Sundays, according to organisational needs. This means you may be requested to work shifts starting any time of day or night.
  • Be available to work full time for at least the first four (4) weeks while being fully paid and receiving a compulsory induction and training.
  • Able to successfully undergo our Criminal History Screening process and pass a satisfactory medical and functional capacity examination based on the physical and psychological demands of the role.
  • A Working with Children (WWC) check may be required.
  • Ability to work towards a Certificate III in Disability Work (unless already held) during business hours or work towards successfully completing a Certificate III in Community Services (Disability) or equivalent within a specified time-frame.
  • Ability to successfully complete "Apply First Aid" course (unless already held) during business hours.

Visa Requirement 
Prior to appointment you will need to substantiate your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the duration of the vacancy.
