Primary Objective

Provide professional financial accounting, taxation and regulatory reporting services for Power and Water Corporation.

Key Responsibilities

1.      Research emerging technical accounting and taxation issues (Federal, State & NTER) and provide expert accounting and taxation advice relating to the impact of emerging accounting and taxation issues on the Corporation’s business and regulatory environment in which it operates.

2.      Manage the general financial accounting functions including the preparation of reconciliations; the preparation and lodgement of the Corporation’s Superannuation and Taxation filings (eg BAS, FBT, Income Tax and Payroll Tax) and coordination of the Corporation’s funding and cash arrangements, including liaison with stakeholders within the Corporation and external stakeholders as required.

3.      Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of reports including the Corporation’s Consolidated Annual Financial Statements and any other external reporting obligations and coordinate the external audit.

4.      Provide effective leadership, resource management, workflow management and undertake continuous improvement with a significant emphasis on improving and enhancing staff skill levels.

5.      Carry out duties in accordance with Power and Water's safety and environmental policy, safety principles, corporate values and behaviours.

Selection criteria – Essential

1.      Detailed knowledge of the Australian Equivalents to International Reporting Accounting Standards and Australian Taxation legislation and proven application.

2.      Extensive experience in financial accounting including cash flows, taxation and consolidations in a complex commercial environment, together with proven analytical and problem solving skills.

3.      Demonstrated people management skills, with proven experience in managing successful teams to ensure work objectives are met within time frames in an environment of change and continuous improvement.

4.      Strong oral and written communication, including the ability to produce written procedures, and the ability to interact effectively with people of a diverse culture.

5.      Skilled use of a wide range of accounting and business software including report generation techniques and methods of analysis and presentation.

Selection criteria – Desirable

1.      Degree in Accounting and completion of Certified Practising Accountant/Chartered Accountant qualification.

2.      Experience in utilities, heavy industries or related environments with an understanding of contemporary issues relating to the power and water industry in the Northern Territory.
