Located on the edge of Sydney, Hawkesbury City Council is rich in past heritage and future opportunity. Home to the iconic Hawkesbury River and Australia’s third oldest settlement, the area offers great natural beauty, rural landscapes and 64 towns and villages, each with its own unique identity. A developing aerospace precinct with linkages across education, health, equine, defence, tourism and local business offers exciting opportunities to engage with communities passionate about the area and create relationships across emerging industries.

Council is now seeking to appoint an energetic Director City Planning who will work across the organisation and within the community to deliver and embed positive changes in relation to governance, customer service, economic development, environment, heritage and urban design outcomes.

Specifically, the Director will be responsible for:

  • Leading, supporting and empowering planning division staff including Development Services, Strategic Planning, Economic Development and Regulatory Services;
  • Driving change and best practice that delivers robust strategies and policies to position Hawkesbury City for a balanced and integrated approach to land use, economic and business development, urban design and environmental sustainability;
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships with current and future industry employers;
  • Engaging with communities to understand local priorities; and,
  • Building robust relationships with external networks such as Western Sydney City Deal and the Greater Sydney Commission.

With relevant tertiary education, deep experience in planning and economic development and detailed knowledge of local government functions, you will bring exceptional communication skills and a strong moral compass. You will have sound experience in managing budgets, be politically astute and will have demonstrated ability to deliver agreed outcomes.
