About us

Muswellbrook Shire Council is a forward looking, progressive, and active Council that through implementation of new planning instruments (LEP and DCP) aims to support economic diversification and innovation in the shire.

Muswellbrook Shire is one of NSW’s most dynamic local government areas for over four decades it has been at the heart of the State’s energy industry; with two of NSW’s base load power generators located in the Shire, Bayswater and Liddell. Muswellbrook Shire’s coal industry exports 25% of NSW’s thermal coal, it is the home of the two largest thoroughbred horse studs in the southern hemisphere, it produces approximately 40% of the Hunter Valley’s viticulture and is home to the largest dairy industry in the Hunter.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is wanting to play a part in the economic diversification of the Upper Hunter.

About the position

To assist the Coordinator and Manager of Financial Services to successfully deliver Council’s 30 June 2018 financial statements and  outcomes in an accurate and timely manner through the provision of competent financial analysis whilst complying with organisational policies and procedures and legislative requirements.

About you

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Degree Qualification in Accounting, Business or Finance or comparable experience.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in preparing annual financial statements.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and set priorities to achieve objectives within a timetable and with resources available.
  • Experience in written and oral communication including preparation of reports  
  • Proficient computer skills particularly Microsoft word and excel in particular formulas and graphs
  • At least three years relevant experience in an accounting position.
  • Experience in Local Government accounting issues (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience and/or capability to deliver the Job Specific Key Accountabilities (attached).
  • Demonstrated Developed key capabilities as defined in the Key Capabilities Table (attached).
