Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise, lead and manage the Accounts Payable. 
  • Ensure the Accounts Payable team, have appropriate allocation and supervision of workloads to ensure the systematic function of the section at council adopted standards. 
  • Develop, mentor, coach and empower staff to build a high -performance team culture. Motivate staff to achieve section outcomes.
  • Responsible for ongoing performance measurement and ensuring performance meets agreed standards; identifies and follows through on training and development needs. 
  • Involvement in recruitment and selection for own team.
  • Drive system improvements within the team, to support the delivery of effective, high quality, targeted and best value services.
  • Collect and maintain appropriate data to enable the identification of process and service improvements.
  • Assist with processing of day to day accounts payable transactions as required. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, Local Government Code of Accounting Practice, the Local Government Act, and associated regulations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Finance Business Plan and complete projects assigned as part of the process.
  • Maintain the completeness, accuracy, reliability and integrity of Councils financial ledgers.
  • Ensure all reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Keep abreast of any changes in regulatory, statutory, and taxation requirements.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Coordinator Financial Operations and/or Manager Finance.

Essential Criteria includes but not limited to:

  • Degree qualifications in accounting, business, commerce or a related field and/or extensive relevant experience in financial transaction processing.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with an Accounts Payable enterprise system.
  • A sound knowledge of NSW local government procurement requirements.
  • Proven extensive experience in leading, motivating and managing a team.
  • High level negotiating and influencing skills. 
  • Effective skills and experience with complaint handling and problem solving. 
  • Exercising judgment, control and leadership in difficult and confronting situations. 
  • Working within specified time requirements
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
