Primary Objective: As a teacher and member of the school team support teaching staff to deliver, develop, monitor and evaluate learning programs across relevant key learning areas. Liaise and coordinate activities for your teaching area within school, across client schools and within the wider community. Participate in whole school strategic decision making.

 

Context Statement: The Northern Territory School of Distance Education (NTSDE) supports and delivers a range of educational services to students, resident in the Northern Territory or temporarily living interstate or overseas. The school works in collaboration with the Department of Education teachers living in remote community schools and supporting adults to deliver high quality, innovative and flexible senior secondary distance education programs. Teachers must be able to deliver and develop learning programs through a blended delivery model.  Teachers must be prepared to travel, deliver compacted programs in targeted locations, use advanced online technologies, and teach both in distance and face-to-face mode, to on and offsite student cohorts. The co-location with Darwin High School provides opportunities for collaboration and temporary teacher placement to optimise flexible delivery options to students across both sites.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.   Plan, prepare and deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the Australian Curriculum and relevant curriculum policies and educational trends both within specialist subject area and other curriculum areas as required.

2.   Flexibly support students through the development of a supportive learning environment and utilise effective behaviour management practices both on campus and at targeted off-site locations.

3.   Provide for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well-being and safety of students in a distance education setting.

4.   Regularly assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.

5.   Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.

6.   Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships with all members of the school community.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

1.   Ability to plan, prepare and deliver distance learning programs consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, the Australian Curriculum and curriculum policy, and education and technology trends, both on campus and at targeted off-site locations.

2.   Demonstrated high level technology skills to establish a challenging learning environment.

3.   Ability to communicate effectively with students using appropriate interpersonal skills in a range of settings.

4.   Ability to plan and utilise effective behaviour management strategies that establish and maintain a supportive learning environment, both on campus and at targeted off-site locations.

5.   Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and supporting adults, and establish and develop productive school community partnerships in an intercultural environment.

6.   Commitment to maintain current and relevant professional learning and meet the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

 

Position Requirements:

All applicants must be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory, hold a current Working with Children Notice  from SAFE NT, and a current “C” class drivers licence. All applicants must be prepared to teach within specialist subject area and other curriculum areas as required, travel remotely, deliver compacted programs in targeted locations, gain a 4WD qualification if required and travel in a light aircraft.
