Chief Financial Officer

We are looking for a motivated person with a strong financial background who is seeking to advance their career. The role will provide professional financial services to protect and enhance Council’s financial interests.

The position will report to the Director Finance and Corporate Services and be responsible for managing council’s finances to ensure financial sustainability, sound financial planning, management of financial risks and financial reporting.  The role is accountable to the Audit Committee, delivery of elected member workshops and management of community engagement for the draft budget.  Critically, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Budget (preparation and reviews)
  • Long-term financial planning
  • Asset accounting
  • Management accounting
  • Cost accounting
  • Procurement management, compliance and internal controls
  • Internal and external audit requirements

This position would suit someone looking to advance their career in local government with opportunities to act in the role of Director Finance & Corporate Services in their absence.

This is a leadership role providing guidance and mentoring support to a small team of 4-6 people including Accounts Payable/Receivable, Customer Service, Rates Officer and a Procurement Officer. The incumbent will also be expected to provide strategic advice to Council on ways to improve its financial sustainability.

If you hold the relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting with demonstrated experience and knowledge of contemporary financial management and financial sustainability practices we want to hear from you.

A CA or CPA and/or previous Local Government experience, whilst not mandatory, would be highly regarded. 

The Salary Package

For your hard work and dedication, you will be rewarded with an attractive salary package up to $120,000, with super, relocation assistance and 5 weeks' annual leave.  Accommodation or rental assistance is negotiable.
