The Business Unit

The Environmental Compliance Business Unit delivers regulation, enforcement, and education services that protect the public, the environment and groups such as residents, tenants, workers and businesses.


This Business Unit is involved with the investigation and enforcement of legislation, council policy, and customer requests in relation to parking and companion animals, public health and pollution matters, building/development, land use and fire safety, as well as providing private certification services. 


The Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager Building Control the Building Control Officer will assist in achieving the efficient and effective administration of the compliance and inspection functions of the Council in accordance with the provisions of all relevant Acts and regulations.


As a member of a multidisciplinary team, ensure that an efficient and effective service is provided and that the outcomes, particularly in the area of building compliance are of a high standard, consistent with Council and community expectations.


The Building Control Officer is responsible for the prompt and accurate investigation of complaints in relation to compliance matters with statutory constraints.


Selection Criteria

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification or experience in building control and compliance matters.
  • A detailed knowledge of NSW planning and development legislation including, relevant legislation, including Acts, Regulations and Standards
  • Demonstrated experience in the consideration of and determination of compliance matters, preferably at the local government level
  • Demonstrated experience in the investigation and issuing of Notices and Orders relating to compliance matters
